Postcard Exchange Week # 5: Another Postcard From The Philippines

We received another postcard from the Philippines this week! Thanks to fellow homeschooler, Kyla for sending us the beautiful postcard.

Tinikling is the most popular and best known of the Philippine dances and honored as the Philippine national dance. The dance imitates the movement of the tikling birds as they walk between grass stems, run over tree branches, or dodge bamboo traps set by rice farmers. Dancers imitate the tikling bird's legendary grace and speed by skillfully maneuvering between large bamboo poles. Tinikling means "bamboo dance" in English. Read more about Tinikling here.)

Postcard Exchange Week # 4: Chesapeake Bay

We are happy to announce that we received  a postcard from our friends in Chesapeake Bay! Thanks to the Bergenholtz Family for joining us in our Postcard Exchange Project and for helping make our geography and cultural learning more fun.

 Food is one major thing that makes a culture unique. It's also one big thing that a certain place is known for. So we think this postcard is so cool!!!

Love that golden accent on the stamps! But much more the recipe that goes with the card.

Chesapeake Bay Crab Soup

2 tablespoons oil

1 carrot, diced

1 medium onion, diced

3 cups chicken broth

3 cups beef cubes

3-4 diced potatoes

3-4 diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)

2 teaspoons seafood seasoning (Old Bay)

1 pound Maryland crab meat

2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Saute the carrot and onion in the oil in a stock pot. Cook until vegetables are softened. Add broth, potatoes, tomatoes and seafood seasoning. Simmer just until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Add the crabmeat and parsley and heat through.

Hmmm, I think this is very easy to make! Will have to try this soup this week. It must not be as good as having a crabmeat from Maryland :(
