Languages of The World

Did you know that there are approximately 6,809 languages in the world?

However, near the half of them, according to Etnologue is on the way to disappear totally, as many languages are spoken only by a handful of old people, or a small ethnical group.

Of all the languages in the world, English is probably the most commonly spoken. Here are some facts I found from Wikipedia:

Approximately 375 million people speak English as their first language. English today is probably the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. However, when combining native and non-native speakers it is probably the most commonly spoken language in the world, though possibly second to a combination of the Chinese languages (depending on whether or not distinctions in the latter are classified as "languages" or "dialects").

What is your first language?  Can you speak other languages and dialects? I can speak 5 languages and 3 other dialects. And it's easy to get all mixed-up!
